Gli Olivi e gli Agrumi com'è noto rappresentano un elemento fondamentale del paesaggio mediterraneo con estese coltivazioni intensive volte alla produzione dei preziosi frutti. In origine però l'utilizzo diffuso era quello ornamentale e curativo medicinale e non certo come alimento. È cinese la più antica citazione sugli agrumi che conosciamo ed è riportata nel libro Yu Gong che si diffuse 4000 anni fa. In Europa i primi riferimenti sono stati ritrovati in scritti di autori arabi viaggiatori e storici. Altrettanto antica la storia dell'olivo le cui origini risalgono probabilmente a 6000 anni e comunque strettamente legata alla storia dell'umanità.
Sia per gli agrumi che per gli olivi esistono esempi di uso a spiccata valenza ornamentale, ricordiamo i Dammusi di Pantelleria o le famose ville de Medici in Toscana per finire alle limonaie del Garda.
Olive and citrus trees, as is well known, are a fundamental element of the landscape
mediterranean with extensive intensive cultivation aimed at the production of the precious fruits. Originally,however, the widespread use was that ornamental and medicinal healing and certainly not as food. Chinese is the oldest mention of citrus fruits that we know and is reported
in the book Yu Gong that spread 4000 years ago. In Europe the first references were found
in writings of Arab authors travelers and historians. Equally ancient the history of the olive tree whose origins probably date back to 6000 years and however closely linked to history
of humanity.
Both for citrus and for olive trees there are examples of use with a strong ornamental value,
we remember the Dammusi of Pantelleria or the famous villas de Medici in Tuscany to finish
Limonaie del Garda.
